Varnishes For Oil Paints

Varnishes for paintings made with oil paint are available in matte, satin or glossy finishes. The application of the varnish is a step that is just as important as the creation of the painting in determining the quality in the work of art.  Without the varnishing step, differences between bright and matte areas that are inherent to the execution of a painting, can significantly annoy the viewer. The varnish will standardize the gloss while protecting it.
